Conditions & Clothing Required

Shinrin Yoku is an extremely gentle form of exercise, requiring a moderate level of fitness, in forest or woodland settings. Participants are advised that we will tend to journey through the forest for about 1-3 miles depending on the experience booked. This can be over uneven ground so please arrive with correct footwear with good grip and appropriate clothing for the time of year. Please wear long trousers and tops with sleeves as your body temperature can significantly reduce as we move slowly in the forest and stop regularly so bring extra layers of clothing and a warm coat - ideally waterproof including waterproof trousers if you have them. Please bring your own drinks and snacks if required.  Justine will usually bring hot water and herbal tea.  If in doubt, please check with Justine. I reserve the right to refuse participation in the session if you are not wearing appropriate clothing.  This is for your own safety

Health

Any mobility or health issues must be notified in advance, and we reserve the right to turn people away if they have not disclosed any mobility problems beforehand.  Shinrin-yoku involves breathing deeply, walking slowly through a wooded area, standing and sitting/lying. Potential physical risks of are associated with the walking and breathing exercises, and certain natural hazards (e.g. roots, branches). Forest bathing can be emotional activity; you may find that certain emotions surface during the exercises. For example your understanding of yourself or your relationship with the environment.  This is a normal reaction and happens when our bodies relax and release tension.

Weather & Cancellation (by me)

I run Shinrin-yoku sessions in all weathers with the exception of high winds or extreme cold.  There are additional benefits of doing a session in wet weather and often the tree canopy protects participants from inclement weather. However, if the the session is cancelled we aim to give you as much advance notice as possible and rebook the session on an alternative day.In the event of extreme weather conditions, a decision will be taken based on Met Office advice, and either a full refund will be offered, or an alternative date will be offered.
